PSLE At a fun fair, 10% of the tickets were sold at full price and 15% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 675 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $8190. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 10% - 15%
= 75%
75% → 675
1% → 675 ÷ 75 = 9
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 9
= 90
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 15% of the tickets
= 15 x 9
= 135

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 90 x 2 u + 135 x 1 u
= 180 u + 135 u
= 315 u
315 u = 8190
1 u = 8190 ÷ 315 = 26
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $26
Answer(s): $26
