PSLE At a carnival, 35% of the tickets were sold at full price and 50% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 150 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $27600. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 35% - 50%
= 15%
15% → 150
1% → 150 ÷ 15 = 10
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 35% of the tickets
= 35 x 10
= 350
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 50% of the tickets
= 50 x 10
= 500

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 350 x 2 u + 500 x 1 u
= 700 u + 500 u
= 1200 u
1200 u = 27600
1 u = 27600 ÷ 1200 = 23
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 23
= $46
Answer(s): $46
