PSLE At a theme park, 60% of the tickets were sold at full price and 20% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 80 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $11200. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 60% - 20%
= 20%
20% → 80
1% → 80 ÷ 20 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 60% of the tickets
= 60 x 4
= 240
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 4
= 80

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 240 x 2 u + 80 x 1 u
= 480 u + 80 u
= 560 u
560 u = 11200
1 u = 11200 ÷ 560 = 20
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 20
= $40
Answer(s): $40
