PSLE At a basketball match, 35% of the tickets were sold at full price and 55% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 60 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $12000. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 35% - 55%
= 10%
10% → 60
1% → 60 ÷ 10 = 6
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 35% of the tickets
= 35 x 6
= 210
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 55% of the tickets
= 55 x 6
= 330

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 210 x 2 u + 330 x 1 u
= 420 u + 330 u
= 750 u
750 u = 12000
1 u = 12000 ÷ 750 = 16
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $16
Answer(s): $16
