PSLE At a fun fair, 20% of the tickets were sold at full price and 10% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 280 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $2200. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 20% - 10%
= 70%
70% → 280
1% → 280 ÷ 70 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 4
= 80
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 4
= 40

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 80 x 2 u + 40 x 1 u
= 160 u + 40 u
= 200 u
200 u = 2200
1 u = 2200 ÷ 200 = 11
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $11
Answer(s): $11
