PSLE At a carnival, 15% of the tickets were sold at full price and 60% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 50 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $2160. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 15% - 60%
= 25%
25% → 50
1% → 50 ÷ 25 = 2
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 15% of the tickets
= 15 x 2
= 30
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 60% of the tickets
= 60 x 2
= 120

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 30 x 2 u + 120 x 1 u
= 60 u + 120 u
= 180 u
180 u = 2160
1 u = 2160 ÷ 180 = 12
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 12
= $24
Answer(s): $24
