PSLE At a basketball match, 35% of the tickets were sold at full price and 15% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 100 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $4930. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 35% - 15%
= 50%
50% → 100
1% → 100 ÷ 50 = 2
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 35% of the tickets
= 35 x 2
= 70
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 15% of the tickets
= 15 x 2
= 30

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 70 x 2 u + 30 x 1 u

170 u = 4930
1 u = 4930 ÷ 170 = 29
Full price of the ticket
