PSLE At a fun fair, 25% of the tickets were sold at full price and 70% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 50 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $36000. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 25% - 70%
= 5%
5% → 50
1% → 50 ÷ 5 = 10
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 10
= 250
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 70% of the tickets
= 70 x 10
= 700

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 250 x 2 u + 700 x 1 u
= 500 u + 700 u
= 1200 u
1200 u = 36000
1 u = 36000 ÷ 1200 = 30
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 30
= $60
Answer(s): $60
