PSLE At a basketball match, 35% of the tickets were sold at full price and 20% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 180 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $4320. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 35% - 20%
= 45%
45% → 180
1% → 180 ÷ 45 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 35% of the tickets
= 35 x 4
= 140
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 4
= 80

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 140 x 2 u + 80 x 1 u
= 280 u + 80 u
= 360 u
360 u = 4320
1 u = 4320 ÷ 360 = 12
Full price of the ticket

= 2 x 12
= $24
Answer(s): $24
