PSLE At a fun fair, 45% of the tickets were sold at full price and 10% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 180 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $6400. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 45% - 10%
= 45%
45% → 180
1% → 180 ÷ 45 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 45% of the tickets
= 45 x 4
= 180
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 4
= 40

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 180 x 2 u + 40 x 1 u
= 360 u + 40 u
= 400 u
400 u = 6400
1 u = 6400 ÷ 400 = 16
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $16
Answer(s): $16
