PSLE At a basketball match, 25% of the tickets were sold at full price and 60% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 45 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $5940. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 25% - 60%
= 15%
15% → 45
1% → 45 ÷ 15 = 3
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 3
= 75
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 60% of the tickets
= 60 x 3
= 180

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 75 x 2 u + 180 x 1 u
= 150 u + 180 u

330 u = 5940
1 u = 5940 ÷ 330 = 18
Full price of the ticket

= 2 x 18
= $36
