PSLE At a basketball match, 40% of the tickets were sold at full price and 40% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 100 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $6000. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 40% - 40%
= 20%
20% → 100
1% → 100 ÷ 20 = 5
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 40% of the tickets
= 40 x 5
= 200
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 40% of the tickets
= 40 x 5
= 200

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 200 x 2 u + 200 x 1 u
= 400 u + 200 u
= 600 u
600 u = 6000
1 u = 6000 ÷ 600 = 10
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 10
= $20
