PSLE At a theme park, 40% of the tickets were sold at full price and 50% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 40 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $9360. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 40% - 50%
= 10%
10% → 40
1% → 40 ÷ 10 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 40% of the tickets
= 40 x 4
= 160
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 50% of the tickets
= 50 x 4
= 200

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 160 x 2 u + 200 x 1 u
= 320 u + 200 u
= 520 u
520 u = 9360
1 u = 9360 ÷ 520 = 18
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $18
Answer(s): $18
