PSLE At a theme park, 40% of the tickets were sold at full price and 10% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 250 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $9000. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 40% - 10%
= 50%
50% → 250
1% → 250 ÷ 50 = 5
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 40% of the tickets
= 40 x 5
= 200
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 5
= 50

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 200 x 2 u + 50 x 1 u
= 400 u + 50 u
= 450 u
450 u = 9000
1 u = 9000 ÷ 450 = 20
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 20
= $40
Answer(s): $40
