PSLE At a theme park, 70% of the tickets were sold at full price and 10% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 140 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $25200. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 70% - 10%
= 20%
20% → 140
1% → 140 ÷ 20 = 7
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 70% of the tickets
= 70 x 7
= 490
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 7
= 70

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 490 x 2 u + 70 x 1 u
= 980 u + 70 u
= 1050 u
1050 u = 25200
1 u = 25200 ÷ 1050 = 24
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 24
= $48
Answer(s): $48
