PSLE At a theme park, 25% of the tickets were sold at full price and 40% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 70 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $1980. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 25% - 40%
= 35%
35% → 70
1% → 70 ÷ 35 = 2
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 2
= 50
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 40% of the tickets
= 40 x 2
= 80

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 50 x 2 u + 80 x 1 u
= 100 u + 80 u
= 180 u
180 u = 1980
1 u = 1980 ÷ 180 = 11
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 11
= $22
Answer(s): $22
