PSLE At a basketball match, 15% of the tickets were sold at full price and 15% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 280 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $3600. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 15% - 15%
= 70%
70% → 280
1% → 280 ÷ 70 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 15% of the tickets
= 15 x 4
= 60
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 15% of the tickets
= 15 x 4
= 60

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 60 x 2 u + 60 x 1 u
= 120 u + 60 u
= 180 u
180 u = 3600
1 u = 3600 ÷ 180 = 20
Full price of the ticket

= 2 x 20
= $40
Answer(s): $40
