PSLE At a theme park, 30% of the tickets were sold at full price and 60% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 60 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $11520. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 30% - 60%
= 10%
10% → 60
1% → 60 ÷ 10 = 6
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 30% of the tickets
= 30 x 6
= 180
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 60% of the tickets
= 60 x 6
= 360

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 180 x 2 u + 360 x 1 u
= 360 u + 360 u
= 720 u
720 u = 11520
1 u = 11520 ÷ 720 = 16
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $16
Answer(s): $16
