PSLE At a fun fair, 20% of the tickets were sold at full price and 15% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 325 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $5775. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 20% - 15%
= 65%
65% → 325
1% → 325 ÷ 65 = 5
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 5
= 100
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 15% of the tickets
= 15 x 5
= 75

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 100 x 2 u + 75 x 1 u
= 200 u + 75 u
= 275 u
275 u = 5775
1 u = 5775 ÷ 275 = 21
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 21
= $42
Answer(s): $42
