PSLE At a basketball match, 35% of the tickets were sold at full price and 20% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 135 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $4320. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 35% - 20%
= 45%
45% → 135
1% → 135 ÷ 45 = 3
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 35% of the tickets
= 35 x 3
= 105
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 3
= 60

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 105 x 2 u + 60 x 1 u
= 210 u + 60 u
= 270 u
270 u = 4320
1 u = 4320 ÷ 270 = 16
Full price of the ticket

= $32
