PSLE At a basketball match, 30% of the tickets were sold at full price and 50% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 60 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $3960. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 30% - 50%
= 20%
20% → 60
1% → 60 ÷ 20 = 3
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 30% of the tickets
= 30 x 3
= 90
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 50% of the tickets
= 50 x 3
= 150

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 90 x 2 u + 150 x 1 u
= 180 u + 150 u
= 330 u
330 u = 3960
1 u = 3960 ÷ 330 = 12
Full price of the ticket

= 2 x 12
= $24
Answer(s): $24
