PSLE At a basketball match, 25% of the tickets were sold at full price and 30% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 180 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $3200. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 25% - 30%
= 45%
45% → 180
1% → 180 ÷ 45 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 4
= 100
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 30% of the tickets
= 30 x 4
= 120

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 100 x 2 u + 120 x 1 u
= 200 u + 120 u
= 320 u
320 u = 3200
1 u = 3200 ÷ 320 = 10
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $10
