PSLE At a theme park, 10% of the tickets were sold at full price and 20% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 140 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $800. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 10% - 20%
= 70%
70% → 140
1% → 140 ÷ 70 = 2
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 2
= 20
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 2
= 40

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 20 x 2 u + 40 x 1 u
= 40 u + 40 u
= 80 u
80 u = 800
1 u = 800 ÷ 80 = 10
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $10
