PSLE At a carnival, 15% of the tickets were sold at full price and 50% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 210 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $7680. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 15% - 50%
= 35%
35% → 210
1% → 210 ÷ 35 = 6
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 15% of the tickets
= 15 x 6
= 90
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 50% of the tickets
= 50 x 6
= 300

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 90 x 2 u + 300 x 1 u
= 180 u + 300 u
= 480 u
480 u = 7680
1 u = 7680 ÷ 480 = 16
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $16
