PSLE At a basketball match, 35% of the tickets were sold at full price and 50% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 60 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $9120. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 35% - 50%
= 15%
15% → 60
1% → 60 ÷ 15 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 35% of the tickets
= 35 x 4
= 140
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 50% of the tickets
= 50 x 4
= 200

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 140 x 2 u + 200 x 1 u
= 280 u + 200 u
= 480 u
480 u = 9120
1 u = 9120 ÷ 480 = 19
Full price of the ticket

= 2 x 19
= $38
Answer(s): $38
