PSLE At a basketball match, 60% of the tickets were sold at full price and 35% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 30 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $18600. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 60% - 35%
= 5%
5% → 30
1% → 30 ÷ 5 = 6
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 60% of the tickets
= 60 x 6
= 360
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 35% of the tickets
= 35 x 6
= 210

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 360 x 2 u + 210 x 1 u
= 720 u + 210 u
= 930 u
930 u = 18600
1 u = 18600 ÷ 930 = 20
Full price of the ticket

= 2 x 20
= $40
