PSLE At a fun fair, 40% of the tickets were sold at full price and 25% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 280 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $18480. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 40% - 25%
= 35%
35% → 280
1% → 280 ÷ 35 = 8
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 40% of the tickets
= 40 x 8
= 320
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 8
= 200

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 320 x 2 u + 200 x 1 u
= 640 u + 200 u
= 840 u
840 u = 18480
1 u = 18480 ÷ 840 = 22
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 22
= $44
Answer(s): $44
