PSLE At a basketball match, 10% of the tickets were sold at full price and 50% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 120 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $6090. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 10% - 50%
= 40%
40% → 120
1% → 120 ÷ 40 = 3
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 3
= 30
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 50% of the tickets
= 50 x 3
= 150

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 30 x 2 u + 150 x 1 u
= 60 u + 150 u
= 210 u
210 u = 6090
1 u = 6090 ÷ 210 = 29
Full price of the ticket

= 2 x 29
= $58
Answer(s): $58
