PSLE At a fun fair, 25% of the tickets were sold at full price and 35% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 240 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $14280. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 25% - 35%
= 40%
40% → 240
1% → 240 ÷ 40 = 6
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 6
= 150
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 35% of the tickets
= 35 x 6
= 210

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 150 x 2 u + 210 x 1 u
= 300 u + 210 u
= 510 u
510 u = 14280
1 u = 14280 ÷ 510 = 28
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $28
Answer(s): $28
