PSLE At a carnival, 25% of the tickets were sold at full price and 10% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 650 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $13800. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 25% - 10%
= 65%
65% → 650
1% → 650 ÷ 65 = 10
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 10
= 250
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 10
= 100

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 250 x 2 u + 100 x 1 u
= 500 u + 100 u
= 600 u
600 u = 13800
1 u = 13800 ÷ 600 = 23
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 23
= $46
Answer(s): $46
