PSLE At a carnival, 15% of the tickets were sold at full price and 60% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 150 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $8640. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 15% - 60%
= 25%
25% → 150
1% → 150 ÷ 25 = 6
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 15% of the tickets
= 15 x 6
= 90
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 60% of the tickets
= 60 x 6
= 360

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 90 x 2 u + 360 x 1 u
= 180 u + 360 u
= 540 u
540 u = 8640
1 u = 8640 ÷ 540 = 16
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 16
= $32
Answer(s): $32
