PSLE At a fun fair, 25% of the tickets were sold at full price and 20% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 220 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $3920. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 25% - 20%
= 55%
55% → 220
1% → 220 ÷ 55 = 4
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 4
= 100
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 4
= 80

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 100 x 2 u + 80 x 1 u
= 200 u + 80 u
= 280 u
280 u = 3920
1 u = 3920 ÷ 280 = 14
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 14
= $28
Answer(s): $28
