PSLE At a theme park, 30% of the tickets were sold at full price and 10% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 480 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $16800. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 30% - 10%
= 60%
60% → 480
1% → 480 ÷ 60 = 8
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 30% of the tickets
= 30 x 8
= 240
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 10% of the tickets
= 10 x 8
= 80

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 240 x 2 u + 80 x 1 u
= 480 u + 80 u
= 560 u
560 u = 16800
1 u = 16800 ÷ 560 = 30
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 30
= $60
Answer(s): $60
