PSLE At a fun fair, 50% of the tickets were sold at full price and 20% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 300 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $30000. What was the full price of the ticket?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 50% - 20%
= 30%
30% → 300
1% → 300 ÷ 30 = 10
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 50% of the tickets
= 50 x 10
= 500
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 20% of the tickets
= 20 x 10
= 200

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 500 x 2 u + 200 x 1 u
= 1000 u + 200 u
= 1200 u
1200 u = 30000
1 u = 30000 ÷ 1200 = 25
Full price of the ticket
= 2 u
= 2 x 25
= $50
Answer(s): $50
