PSLE At a fun fair, 55% of the tickets were sold at full price and 40% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 15 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $6750. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 55% - 40%
= 5%
5% → 15
1% → 15 ÷ 5 = 3
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 55% of the tickets
= 55 x 3
= 165
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 40% of the tickets
= 40 x 3
= 120

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 165 x 2 u + 120 x 1 u
= 330 u + 120 u
= 450 u
450 u = 6750
1 u = 6750 ÷ 450 = 15
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $15
Answer(s): $15
