PSLE At a basketball match, 25% of the tickets were sold at full price and 60% of the tickets at half price. The remaining 150 tickets were given away free. The total amount of money collected was $22000. What was the price of the ticket at half price?
Percentage of the tickets given free
= 100% - 25% - 60%
= 15%
15% → 150
1% → 150 ÷ 15 = 10
Number of tickets sold at full price
= 25% of the tickets
= 25 x 10
= 250
Number of tickets sold at half price
= 60% of the tickets
= 60 x 10
= 600

Cost of 1 full price ticket = 2 u
Cost of 1 half price ticket = 1 u
Total amount collected
= 250 x 2 u + 600 x 1 u
= 500 u + 600 u
= 1100 u
1100 u = 22000
1 u = 22000 ÷ 1100 = 20
Price of the ticket at half price
= 1 u
= $20
