Gillian had a total of 114 pink and green beads. She used 39 pink beads and 50% of the green beads. After that, the ratio of the number of pink beads to green beads Gillian had was 3 : 1.

1. What fraction of her green beads was Gillian left with? Give your answer in the simplest form.
2. How many more pink beads than green beads did Gillian have in the end?

Since the numbers are already the same, we do not need to use LCM to make them the same.

Number of green beads at first = 2 u
Number of pink beads at first = 3 u + 39

Total number of beads at first
= 2 u + 3 u + 39
= 5 u + 39

5 u + 39 = 114
5 u = 114 - 39
5 u = 75

1 u = 75 ÷ 5 = 15

Number of green beads in the end = 1 u
Number of pink beads in the end = 3 u

Number of more pink beads than green beads that Gillian had in the end
= 3 u - 1 u
= 2 u
= 2 x 15
= 30
