Nicole had a total of 117 pink and yellow beads. She used 29 pink beads and 70% of the yellow beads. After that, the ratio of the number of pink beads to yellow beads Nicole had was 1 : 3.

1. What fraction of her yellow beads did Nicole use? Give your answer in the simplest form.
2. How many beads did Nicole have in the end?

The number of yellow beads in the end is repeated.
Since the numbers are already the same, we do not need to use LCM to make them the same.

Number of yellow beads at first = 10 u
Number of pink beads at first = 1 u + 29

Total number of beads at first
= 10 u + 1 u + 29
= 11 u + 29

11 u + 29 = 117
11 u = 117 - 29
11 u = 88

1 u = 88 ÷ 11 = 8

Number of yellow beads in the end = 3 u
Number of pink beads in the end = 1 u

Total number of beads in the end
= 1 u + 3 u
= 4 u
= 4 x 8
= 32
