Cindy had a total of 96 yellow and gold beads. She used 46 yellow beads and 40% of the gold beads. After that, the ratio of the number of yellow beads to gold beads Cindy had was 5 : 3.

1. What fraction of her gold beads did Cindy use? Give your answer in the simplest form.
2. How many beads did Cindy have in the end?

Since the numbers are already the same, we do not need to use LCM to make them the same.

Number of gold beads at first = 5 u
Number of yellow beads at first = 5 u + 46

Total number of beads at first
= 5 u + 5 u + 46
= 10 u + 46

10 u + 46 = 96
10 u = 96 - 46
10 u = 50

1 u = 50 ÷ 10 = 5

Number of gold beads in the end = 3 u
Number of yellow beads in the end = 5 u

Total number of beads in the end
= 5 u + 3 u
= 8 u
= 8 x 5
= 40
