PSLE Kimberly had a rectangular piece of paper, 45 cm by 30.3 cm. She cut out as many squares as possible from the paper. The side of each square was 3 cm.
- How many squares did Kimberly cut out?
- What area of the paper was left?
(a)
Number of squares that can be cut out breadthwise
= 30.3 ÷ 3
= 10 r 0.3
Number of squares that can be cut out lengthwise
= 45 ÷ 3
= 15 r 0
Total number of squares
= 15 x 10
= 150
(b)
Remaining breadth of the paper left = 0.3 cm
Area of the paper left
= 45 x 0.3
= 13.5 cm
2 Answer(s): (a) 150; (b) 13.5 cm
