PSLE Emily had a rectangular piece of paper, 64 cm by 30.4 cm. She cut out as many squares as possible from the paper. The side of each square was 2 cm.
- How many squares did Emily cut out?
- What area of the paper was left?
(a)
Number of squares that can be cut out breadthwise
= 30.4 ÷ 2
= 15 r 0.4
Number of squares that can be cut out lengthwise
= 64 ÷ 2
= 32 r 0
Total number of squares
= 32 x 15
= 480
(b)
Remaining breadth of the paper left = 0.4 cm
Area of the paper left
= 64 x 0.4
= 25.6 cm
2 Answer(s): (a) 480; (b) 25.6 cm
