PSLE Abi had a rectangular piece of paper, 50 cm by 26.7 cm. She cut out as many squares as possible from the paper. The side of each square was 2 cm.
- How many squares did Abi cut out?
- What area of the paper was left?
(a)
Number of squares that can be cut out breadthwise
= 26.7 ÷ 2
= 13 r 0.7
Number of squares that can be cut out lengthwise
= 50 ÷ 2
= 25 r 0
Total number of squares
= 25 x 13
= 325
(b)
Remaining breadth of the paper left = 0.7 cm
Area of the paper left
= 50 x 0.7
= 35 cm
2 Answer(s): (a) 325; (b) 35 cm
