PSLE Anna had a rectangular piece of paper, 44 cm by 28.6 cm. She cut out as many squares as possible from the paper. The side of each square was 2 cm.
- How many squares did Anna cut out?
- What area of the paper was left?
(a)
Number of squares that can be cut out breadthwise
= 28.6 ÷ 2
= 14 r 0.6
Number of squares that can be cut out lengthwise
= 44 ÷ 2
= 22 r 0
Total number of squares
= 22 x 14
= 308
(b)
Remaining breadth of the paper left = 0.6 cm
Area of the paper left
= 44 x 0.6
= 26.4 cm
2 Answer(s): (a) 308; (b) 26.4 cm
