PSLE Roshel had a rectangular piece of paper, 64 cm by 33.2 cm. She cut out as many squares as possible from the paper. The side of each square was 4 cm.
- How many squares did Roshel cut out?
- What area of the paper was left?
(a)
Number of squares that can be cut out breadthwise
= 33.2 ÷ 4
= 8 r 1.2
Number of squares that can be cut out lengthwise
= 64 ÷ 4
= 16 r 0
Total number of squares
= 16 x 8
= 128
(b)
Remaining breadth of the paper left = 1.2 cm
Area of the paper left
= 64 x 1.2
= 76.8 cm
2 Answer(s): (a) 128; (b) 76.8 cm
