PSLE Eva had a rectangular piece of paper, 64 cm by 34.3 cm. She cut out as many squares as possible from the paper. The side of each square was 2 cm.
- How many squares did Eva cut out?
- What area of the paper was left?
(a)
Number of squares that can be cut out breadthwise
= 34.3 ÷ 2
= 17 r 0.3
Number of squares that can be cut out lengthwise
= 64 ÷ 2
= 32 r 0
Total number of squares
= 32 x 17
= 544
(b)
Remaining breadth of the paper left = 0.3 cm
Area of the paper left
= 64 x 0.3
= 19.2 cm
2 Answer(s): (a) 544; (b) 19.2 cm
