PSLE Tiffany had a rectangular piece of paper, 40.8 cm by 32 cm. She cut out as many squares as possible from the paper. The side of each square was 2 cm.
- How many squares did Tiffany cut out?
- What area of the paper was left?
(a)
Number of squares that can be cut out lengthwise
= 40.8 ÷ 2
= 20 r 0.8
Number of squares that can be cut out breadthwise
= 32 ÷ 2
= 16 r 0
Total number of squares
= 16 x 20
= 320
(b)
Remaining length of the paper left = 0.8 cm
Area of the paper left
= 0.8 x 32
= 25.6 cm
2 Answer(s): (a) 320; (b) 25.6 cm
