PSLEThe graphs show the total number of leaflets machines D and E printed from the start. Both machines started printing at the same time.
- How many less leaflets did D print than E in 5 minutes?
- Both machines did not change their rates of printing throughout. When D had printed 250 leaflets, how many leaflets had E printed?
(a)
Machine D:
20 min → 100
Machine E:
20 min → 200
Machine D less than Machine E:
20 min → 200 - 100 = 100
1 min → 100 ÷ 20 = 5
5 min → 5 x 5 = 25
Number of leaflets that machine D printed less than Machine E in 5 min = 25
(b)
Machine D:
250 leaflets → 50 min
Machine E:
20 min → 200
1 min → 200 ÷ 20 = 10
50 min → 50 x 10 = 500
Number of leaflets that E had printed when D had printed 250 leaflets = 500
Answer(s): (a) 25; (b) 500
