Carl and Ivan were paid a total of $2100 for a job they did. Carl was paid $1620 more than Ivan.

1. How much was Ivan paid for the job?
2. Carl and Ivan were paid based on the number of days they worked. Carl worked 4 times as many days as Ivan. Ivan was paid $25 less than Carl per day. How many days did Carl work?

Amount that Ivan was paid = 1 u
Amount that Carl was paid = 1 u + 1620

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1620
= 2 u + 1620

2 u + 1620 = 2100
2 u = 2100 - 1620
2 u = 480

1 u = 480 ÷ 2 = 240

Amount that Ivan was paid
= 1 u
= $240

(b)
Amount that Carl was paid
= 1 u + 1620
= 240 + 1620
= $1860

Carl worked 4 times as many days as Ivan.

4 sets of Carl's salary = $1860

1 set of Carl's salary
= 1860 ÷ 4
= $465

1 set of Ivan's salary = $240

Difference between each set of Carl's and Ivan's salaries
= 465 - 240
= $225

Number of days in 1 set
= 225 ÷ 25
= 9

Number of days that Carl worked
= 4 x 9
= 36
