Caden and Fred were paid a total of $2540 for a job they did. Caden was paid $980 more than Fred.

1. How much was Fred paid for the job?
2. Caden and Fred were paid based on the number of days they worked. Caden worked 2 times as many days as Fred. Fred was paid $20 less than Caden per day. How many days did Caden work?

Amount that Fred was paid = 1 u
Amount that Caden was paid = 1 u + 980

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 980
= 2 u + 980

2 u + 980 = 2540
2 u = 2540 - 980
2 u = 1560

1 u = 1560 ÷ 2 = 780

Amount that Fred was paid
= 1 u
= $780

(b)
Amount that Caden was paid
= 1 u + 980
= 780 + 980
= $1760

Caden worked 2 times as many days as Fred.

2 sets of Caden's salary = $1760

1 set of Caden's salary
= 1760 ÷ 2
= $880

1 set of Fred's salary = $780

Difference between each set of Caden's and Fred's salaries
= 880 - 780
= $100

Number of days in 1 set
= 100 ÷ 20
= 5

Number of days that Caden worked
= 2 x 5
= 10
