Cole and Albert were paid a total of $1600 for a job they did. Albert was paid $950 less than Cole.

1. How much was Albert paid for the job?
2. Cole and Albert were paid based on the number of days they worked. Cole worked 3 times as many days as Albert. Cole was paid $25 more than Albert per day. How many days did Cole work?

Amount that Albert was paid = 1 u
Amount that Cole was paid = 1 u + 950

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 950
= 2 u + 950

2 u + 950 = 1600
2 u = 1600 - 950
2 u = 650

1 u = 650 ÷ 2 = 325

Amount that Albert was paid
= 1 u
= $325

(b)
Amount that Cole was paid
= 1 u + 950
= 325 + 950
= $1275

Cole worked 3 times as many days as Albert.

3 sets of Cole's salary = $1275

1 set of Cole's salary
= 1275 ÷ 3
= $425

1 set of Albert's salary = $325

Difference between each set of Cole's and Albert's salaries
= 425 - 325
= $100

Number of days in 1 set
= 100 ÷ 25
= 4

Number of days that Cole worked
= 3 x 4
= 12
